I came to painting later in life, following by a long and enjoyable career in direct response marketing for magazines and newspapers. Having started with a brief spell in art school, I then spend many years as an old master copyist. Copying other artists’ work developed my skills, and some examples of my more ambitious copies are shown on this website. In my own practice, I have always been drawn to the anthropomorphic feel of inanimate objects, and wanted to get away from the conventional still life. I am also very interested in the quality of light. Sometimes the surreal paintings have some inner meaning or significance and others are simply an arrangement of objects that appeal to me.
